List of Religious Spots in Batala

A detailed look of the important religious spots is as follows.

Gurudwara Kandh Sahib

Marriage of Guru Nanak

This Gurudwara derives its name from “Kachhi Kandh” which means mud wall. Interestingly, the wall which is preserved within the Gurudwara still stands erect as was foretold by the Guru. Due to various opinions, the marriage between Sulakhni and Guru Nanak became a matter of contempt to numerous people at that time. Some conspired to push the wall on Guru to kill him. Hence when the marriage party came, the conflict was arranged to be settled through mutual talking.

Guru Nanak was provided a seat, intentionally, near the dilapidated wall. An old woman warned Guru Nanak about the impending danger, but the founder assured her of his safety. Though being warned of the danger, the founder did not dread and passed the pronouncement that the wall shall never fall. It has since been the crest of worship and devotees around the world visit Gurudwara Kandh Sahib to pay respect. A memorial platform has been constructed near the glass encased mud wall by the devotees.

Achleshwar Dham

Achleshwar DhamAnother interesting mythological story has made this place very sacred for the aficionados. It is said that Lord Kartikeya, after being defeated by his brother Ganesha, was inconsolable and permanently settled in Batala.

Their father, Lord Shiva, ad ordered his two sons to go round the world and the one who reaches first becomes a winner. Kartikeya went on his peacock for a tour of the world whereas Ganesha took rounds around his parents.

According to Ganesha his parents were his world. Thus Ganesha completed the race much earlier than his brother. Inconsolable Kartikeya stayed in Batala forever. To appease his depression Lord Shiva had then given Kartikeya the blessing that every year all Hindu Gods will come here to meet him. The occasion is still celebrated with opulence and dignity. Every year on the ninth and tenth day of the month Kartik, celebrations are held here. A big fair is held and devotees take bath in the water of Achleshwar pond.
